Tough. Difficult. Impossible. These are words that excite us. We believe that everyone deserves an opportunity, regardless of how hard and long it takes to get there. Our work begins where the road ends.
Community Driven Design + Build
Programs aim to create an inclusive environment which; involves an entire community, promotes equal representation, and facilitates new leadership opportunities. Everybody gets a vote. Communities prioritize, design, and build their own projects. We value sweat equity and a ‘Do It Yourself’ approach, even if the finished project doesn’t exactly match the drawings.
Low Cost, Higher Impact
Projects are designed to be efficient. We believe a one-time investment of $15 dollars is enough to move a person out of extreme poverty. In greater numbers, it is enough to kick-start development in a community. Projects are designed to be situation appropriate and focus on removing immediate poverty barriers and exponential improvements in livelihoods sufficient to take people out of extreme poverty in less than 24 months.
Knowing Our Role
Raising The Villages partners with local government to focus on communities which would benefit most from programs. The government actively lends technical expertise and local know-how, enabling a smooth transition to the long-term owner of programs and providing a roadmap for governments to apply the RTV approach for themselves.
Ideas need to crafted to suit the situation. No point introducing the world’s fastest computer when there’s no where to plug it in. We focus on community-wide adoption and focus on addressing the present need with an eye to the future.
