The holiday season is, to put it in the words of a holiday classic, the most wonderful time of the year! Yet despite all the end of the year festivities, there’s always one holiday task that adds a little bit of stress to this cheerful holiday—holiday shopping. How many times have you gone into a mall on the fleeting days before it’s too late and wandered around trying to find that perfect present? How many times have you walked out defeated with a generic $25 gift card in your hands? Raising The Village is making it a little easier this year with our ‘Gift Outside the Box’ campaign where people have the opportunity to send that hard-to-shop-for person on their holiday list a postcard informing them of their donation to one of our partner villages in Uganda.
One of the possible donations is the gift of “gorilla deterrent”. In Murole and other villages in the region, families of mountain gorillas are eating and destroying much-needed crops. Yet despite their growing nuisance, there are no proven solutions to deter gorillas from specific areas. While researching gorilla deterrence we’ve come across many potential solutions—we’ve tried man-made moats, electrical fences, even chilli peppers! Yet none of these ideas have had any luck effectively deterring the 600 pound primates. Working with leading primate experts, each donation will go directly towards developing a humane and practical solution to this problem.
By giving the gift of Gorilla Deterrent, you’re able to give two gifts at once. Not only do you get to donate to this incredible cause and support research which will soon allow Ugandans to harvest more of their food, but you’ll also have a unique gift for that impossible-to-shop-for person.
