the global poverty project
Raising The Village impacts rural communities by identifying and working with hard-working community members to provide them the tools and training they need to live sustainably and overcome extreme poverty.
The Global Poverty Project has a vision to see a world without extreme poverty within a generation and is presenting 1.4 Billion Reasons across the globe to increase the number and effectiveness of people taking action.
Starting in July 2011, Raising The Village will be presenting 1.4 Billion Reasons throughout the Greater Toronto Area, as a presentation partner of the Global Poverty Project.
1.4 billion reasons
Right now, 1.4 billion people in our world live in extreme poverty. Within a generation, we have the capacity to reduce this number to zero.
To explain why an end to extreme poverty is possible, and the simple, everyday actions that can help bring this about, the Global Poverty Project has developed the world-class multimedia presentation 1.4 Billion Reasons.
Created to engage and inspire everyday people to join the movement to end extreme poverty, the 1.4 Billion Reasons presentation is built around five questions:
Based on leading research, and endorsed by development and economics experts, 1.4 Billion Reasons can be customised to suit the needs of any audience.
Live Below the Line is an incredible awareness and fundraising campaign that empowers those who want to eradicate extreme poverty within the next generation. 1.4 billion people are forced to live every day on $1.50. Food, drink, health expenses, housing, transportation, education – all living costs must be covered by this amount. It’s a feat impossible to imagine – but it’s the reality for nearly one quarter of the world’s population. The good news is we can effect change in this area.
Join thousands of people across the world by spending just $1.50/day on food for 5 days. In doing so, they will bring the issue of extreme poverty to the attention of their households and workplaces.
